Bioenergy and forest industry

The use of woody biomass for energy vs. raw material use was analysed together with forest industry and bioenergy industry stakeholders. The problems encountered and the raw materials with greatest competition between different use options (e.g. sawdust – pellet industry vs. particle board industry) were analysed. Also an analysis on which policy instruments (like emissions trading, renewable energy directive and other directives) have greatest impact on raw material availability and price in different countries was carried out.

Tasks of the Bioenergy and forest industry action:

  • Analysis of the competition on raw material between bioenergy and forest industry sectors
  • Effects of different RES policy instruments on the raw material availability and price in forest industry
  • Two discussion workshops with bioenergy, agroindusty sector and forest industry

Summary reports of action:

Report on the competition and price situation of woody biomass use in forest industry and energy sector

Report on policy instruments affecting on the forest industry sector and wood availability, survey result report
